The expression offer products that satisfy customer requirements is not just about ethics, but is the key to survival for organizations today. Globalization and technological improvements have made it easy for customers to get what they want, how much they want, whenever they want and of the quality they seek. Therefore, quality management has become integral to achieve stable growth.

However, despite the availability of a wide range of management tools such as TPM, JIT, Lean Production and 6-Sigma, implementation of quality management is not easy.

Therefore, it is time to rewrite Management by Quality, to provide a systematic explanation of current TQM theory and practice. Although TQM itself has not changed greatly during the last decade, this edition aims to be a guide to directors and managers of companies outside Japan, to find out what it is all about. While TQM stresses more on practice than on theory, it is essential to understand it well in order to obtain reliable results. This book is expected to fulfil that purpose.

In this book Management by Quality, Dr. Kume begins by discussing the basics of quality, management and improvement, explains the concepts of TQM, and presents the elements of a TQM program. He describes how to actually introduce and develop TQM in a business, and the differences between quality management based on the ISO 9000 standards and TQM.

This book was originally written in Japanese and was translated into English by Professor Motwani. The aim of the author is to further the understanding of TQM, and spread it across the globe. This he does through case studies, tables and charts.
